Hi,

does the same procedure work when upgrading Tomcat 6.x to 7.x (with the exception of downloading Tomcat from https://tomcat.apache.org/download-70.cgi)?

Yes, the same process should be followed when upgrading from Tomcat 6.x to 7.x.
