Streamlined Mobile Authentication
Question Asked
In the scenario where Yellowfin report content is embedded in another application, often the authentication is also handled in the backend through the web services API to provide a streamlined authentication experience. In that case, the end user doesn't authenticate with Yellowfin but rather directly with the application they are using and then the application authenticates with Yellowfin to deliver embedded report content.

If users for that application also want to access the mobile application, is there a best practice for how authentication is handled? Does it make sense to use the web services API to keep a completely synchronized set of accounts in the application as well as Yellowfin so that users can login with the same credentials for mobile access?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Chance,

It sounds like you are after an auto-login / Single sign on feature for the mobile app.

This depends on what user credentials you want to use.
If you are using a static user account then you can re-brand the app & configure your connection details (making it read-only and using a specific user).

If you would like the app to use an account that is used to login to the PC (E.g. windows user account) the mobile app will not be able to use this as it connects directly to the Yellowfin server, and not windows.
Also it's worth noting that an mobile devices does not have it's own login account , so you cannot pass a mobile user account to the iphone app etc.. as there is no account to pass on.

Please let me know if I have misunderstood what you were after.

David
