Create Users from Active Directory and assign source/access filter
Question Asked
Hi All,

I was wondering whether I could automate the creation of users that already exist in Active Directory?

I want to define a filter for users prior to them ever having logged into YellowFin. The user would be created fine if they logged into YellowFin but I would be assigning the filter data after they logged in as this is when a user would be defined.

I could not mass-create the users via an import I believe as the password attribute would be encrypted in AD....

Or am I missing something obvious :)

Thanks in Advance

Hi Paul,

This should be possible using a bulk user import (the passwords shouldn't matter), and then setup your filters against these users in Yellowfin.

Once this has been setup, you can then switch these users to 'LDAP users' via an SQL Query run against the database.

1. To import these users, you can use the user import function found in Admin > User Management

2. Once you have the users in Yellowfin, add the filters you were after.

3. Then you can run an SQL query to set these users as LDAP users.
Within the 'Person' Table, change the PrivateKeyId from 'null' to 'LDAP' for the relevant users.

!Make sure you correctly identify which users need to be LDAP users, before making changes to the Person table.

These users are now LDAP users, and you should be able to login with the relevant logon credentials.

Please let me know if this doesn't give you the results you were after.

David

Hi,

I was just wondering for an existing user to become a LDAP user, is it necessary to run the query or is it also possible to use some kind of switch in the YF application to make this user an LDAP user?
